Langken Energy has successfully deployed the world’s first magnetic-levitation Organic Rankine Cycle (MagLev ORC) power generator on a CNOOC offshore platform. This innovative system uses waste heat (from sources like flue gas or steam) to vaporize an organic fluid, which then drives a high-speed turbine mounted on frictionless magnetic bearings to generate electricity. The 220 kW unit is specifically designed for offshore conditions, offering a clean, low-maintenance power solution with remote operation capability.

This breakthrough allows for the efficient reuse of low-grade heat that would otherwise be wasted, contributing to decarbonisation efforts in offshore energy production. With a typical payback period of 2–3 years and a projected 20-year lifespan, Langken’s MagLev ORC offers both environmental and economic benefits, and its modular design makes it scalable for various industrial applications.
